WHAT IS A STIMULUS?
A detectable change in the environment, anything that alters resting membrane potential of first order neuron
What is a sensation?
Any stimulus that is process by the central nervous system, any stimulus that alters the resting membrane potential of the second order neuron
What is perception?
Conscious awareness of a sensation
What are the general senses?
Touch & vibration, temperature, pain, proprioception, pressure,& some chemoreceptors
What are the receptors for touch& vibration?
Tactile receptors
What are the receptors for temperature?
Thermoreceptors
What are the receptors for pain?
Nociceptor’S
What are the receptors for proprioception?
Proprioceptor’S
What are the receptors for pressure?
Baroreceptor’S
What are the receptors for chemoreceptors?
Internal chemoreceptors
What are the special senses?
Olfaction, gestation, vision, audition, & equilibrium
What is nociception?
Detection of pain. There are very few nociceptors in theviscera
What are type A fibers?
They do fast or sharp pain
What are type C fibers?
They do slow or dull pain
What is referred pain?
Pain from an organ or a area of the body that is detected as coming from a different area
