allows members to understand expertise of different professions, allows members to become aware of their own expertise, enhances opportunity to network and refer to other professionals, helps lead to professional development, creates learning opportunity

process can be overwhelming, may not produce better quality care, clinical decision making may be compromised due to role conflicts, likely to be more costly, may reduce one on one time between the professional and the patient

may have professional identity reduced, reduces personal decision making, takes time away from other patients, causes separation from professionals, professional becomes reluctant to participate

comprehensive review of the patient’s medical record
what must be done before the examination/evaluation
orient the patient: introduction (name and title), verify the patient is who they should be (DOB, name, etc.), verify diagnosis, interview patient (inform patient why they are there, the type of treatment to be received, and any risks associated). Patient then has chance to ask any questions
