A system of government which ultimate political authority is vested in the people

A procedure by which voters can propose a law or a constitutional amendment
Referendum
an act of referring legislative or constitutional matters to the voters for approval

citizens voting to remove a representative from office
Republic
a form of government where power of governing rests with the people and their representatives
Representative Democracy
A republican form of government where elected persons represent a group of people
Universal Suffrage
all adult citizens have the right to vote

Limits the power of the government

your right to choose / your right to expression
Equality
Equal justice under the law. No one is above or beyond the reach of the law.

a closely linked set of beliefs about the goal of politics

ideology where it is the government’s job to enhance opportunities and provide equality
Conservatism
ideology where it is the government’s job to stay out of people’s lives and be submissive to individual freedom
