  • paradigm shift: terrorist now kill others who do not conform to their belief as opposed to using violence to strengthen a bargaining standpoint
  • pressure on terrorist groups keeps the homeland safe => better to take action elsewhere
  • globalisation means that national boundaries are irrelevant
