In 1889, British courts ruled Australia to be Terra Nullius, which m ant land that is not subject to the sovereignty of any state or “nobody’s land”

What did Terra Nullius mean for the aboriginals
A
Terra nullius meant that the aboriginals had no claim to the land that they had lived on for thousands of years.
They were trying to claim native title.

A
- Have an ongoing connection to the land
- It can be illustrated through ATSI law/traditions
- Has not been extinguished by an act of parliament.
