Extension
Movement that increases the angle between two body parts
Hyperextension
Increasing an angle more than 180 degrees
Abduction
Movement away from the midline
Adduction
Movement towards the midline
Circumduction
Circular movement of a part
Medial/internal rotation
Rotating movement towards the midline
Lateral/external rotation
Rotating movement away from the midline
Elevation
Movement in a superior (upwards) direction
Depression
Movement in an inferior (downward) direction
Pronation
Moves the palm of the hand so that it is facing posteriorly (behind)
Supination
Moves the palm of the hand so that it is facing anteriorly (forward)
Dorsiflexion
Extension in the ankle so that foot points superiorly (upward)
Plantar flexion
Flexion at the ankle, points foot inferiorly (downward)
Retraction
Pulling scapula into spine
I.e.: pinching your shoulder blades
Protraction
Pulling scapula away from spine
