Terms and definitions Flashcards
What is capacity management?
Balancing supply & demand
What is capacity planning?
Identifying capacity required ie. amount of labor hours required
What is capacity control?
Making sure production output matches capacity plan
What are the 4 levels of capacity management/planning?
4 levels: resource planning, rough-cut capacity planning, capacity requirements planning, input/output control
S&OP/production planning corresponds to which level of capacity management/planning? And what is that levels time frame?
Resource planning and long range
Master scheduling corresponds to which level of capacity management/planning? And what is that levels time frame?
Rough-cut capacity planning and medium range
MRP corresponds to which level of capacity management/planning? And what is that levels time frame?
Capacity requirements planning and short range
Production Activity Control corresponds to which level of capacity management/planning? And what is that levels time frame?
Capacity control and short range
What is a resource profile?
Hours of load assigned to a resource
What are the 4 ways to stage growth in capacity?
One-step lead, stepwise lead, stepwise lag, stepwise overlapping
What is rough-cut capacity planning?
Converting mps into requirements for key resources
What is capacity requirements planning? (CRP)
Converting mrp into requirements for all resources required to carry out production
What does Load mean?
Amount of planned work or actual work released
What does Load leveling mean?
‘Leveling’ orders so that work is distributed evenly
What is production activity control?
Basically job scheduling
What is available time?
Total on-shift hours
What is utilization?
% of actual work / available hours
What is efficiency?
% of standard work (from BOM) / % of actual work
What is rated capacity?
Available time * utilization * efficiency
What is demonstrated capacity?
Average output over a period of time
