CODC
Co-Occurring Disorder Court:
he Co-Occurring Disorders Court (CODC) program is designed as an alternative for eligible adults to county jail with a purpose of reducing recidivism and reintegrating individuals back into the community (i.e. eliminate homelessness).
formed in 2007 and designed to help the downtown Los Angeles Skid Row population,
There are approximately sixty people in the program at any one time, which lasts twelve to fifteen months.
Every person accepted for the program begins with a three-month residential stay at a Los Angeles County-owned and operated Antelope Valley Rehabilitation Center in Acton, out east of Santa Clarita and south of Lancaster. Following this, the program participant will move into a Department of Mental Health (DMH) Full Service Partnership (FSP) provider that provides further mental health treatment.
Difference between Arraignment and Preliminary hearings
The preliminary hearing is where the judge decides if there is enough evidence mounted against you for you to stand trial.
The arraignment is where you can file your plea of guilty, not guilty, or no contest. It is not necessary for you to have a preliminary hearing; it is your right to waive it.

730 Eval
- Court-ordered MH evaluation
- A 730 evaluator is the Court’s appointed expert and is not hired by either party.
- intended to be an unbiased, objective evaluation of facts or a matter for which an expert opinion will help the Court.
- A 730 evaluation may include an assessment of substance abuse and addiction issues.

- largely eliminates the existing cash bail system for all but the most serious of crimes.
- Most people arrested on suspicion on non-violent or non-serious offenses will either be cited and released in the field or booked and released at a police or sheriff’s station with orders to appear in court on a specific date for arraignment once they are actually charged with a crime.
