Histology
Describes the anatomy that can be seen down a microscope ie. The microscopic anatomy
Pathology
Describes the diseases states of the body that can be observed with the naked eye.
Histopathology
Describes the diseased states of the body that can only be observed microscopically.
Planes
Describes cadaver cuts made in order to view exposed structures also used to describe views used in diagnostic imaging.
Ipsilateral
Belonging or occuring on the same side of the body.
Contralateral
Pertaining to, situated on or coordinated with the opposite side of the body.
Protraction
Moving the distal limb away from the body, cranially (lengthening)
Retraction
Moving the distal limb towards the body, caudally (shortening)
Supination
Turning of the palmar/ plantar aspect of the paw inwards
Adduction
Moving the limb distal to the joint towards the midline/body.
Abduction
Moving the limb distal to the joint away from the midline/body.
Circumduction
Moving the limb (usually distal to the joint) in a circular motion
Gliding
In a joint, flat surfaces moving over one another eg carpus
Rotation
The way in which a pivot joint moves eg radius and ulna
Flexion
Bending the limb (causes a decrease in the angle of the joint)
