Lien
Means that if a person owes something to another person, then the later can take custody of the formers property
Maritime lien
Claim that specifically binds a ship or it’s cargo for payment of a maritime liability associated with a voyage, such as seamans wages or damage arising out of collision.
Contiguous zone
Adjacent to territorial sea extending up to 24nm, state may exercise control to prevent infringements of customs, immigration, fiscal or sanitary regulations
Exclusive Economic Zone
200nm, sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring, exploiting, conserving and managing the natural resources
Salvage
The act of saving or helping to save maritime property, without any prior legal or contractual obligations
The reward the successful salvor receives
Tacit acceptance
Modern procedure for bringing into force amendments to an IMO convention
Protocol
An instrument that makes major ammendments to a convention
Resolution
The final document containing an agreement on some matter by the IMO assembly or main IMO committee
Recommendations
Non mandatory IMO instrument providing more specific guidelines than conventions or protocols
