Abiotic Factors
Non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect living organisms and the functioning of ecosystems.
Biotic factors
The living things in an ecosystem.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Community
All the different populations if species living in the same place.
Food Chain
A hierarchial series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food.
Hydrosphere
All the water areas in the world.
Pesticides
A substance used for destroying insects or other organisms harmful to cultivated plants or to animals.
Producer
They can produce their own food.
Trophic Level
Each of several hierarchical levels in an ecosystem, comprimising organisms that share the same function in the food chain and the same nutritional relationship to the primary sources of energy.
Aquatic Ecosystem
An ecosystem that is found in water.
Biosphere
All the biomes in life.
Consumer
An organism that must eat to obtain energy.
Ecology
The study of how organisms interact with each other.
Food Web
A collection of food chains put together.
Lithosphere
The rocky parts of the earth.
Population
Several members of the same species living in the same area.
Species
A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. (The same animal or plant)
Range of Tolerance
Specifications of environment in which particular species can survive.
Atmosphere
A thin layer of gases that surround the earth.
- Prevents the Earth from getting too hot or too cold
- Blocks out some of the suns radiation
- Provides you with the gases you need to survive
Decomposer
An organism, especiallt a soil bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate, that deconposes organic material.
Ecosystem
A community of living things interacting with each other.
Habitat
A place where organisms live.
Niche
The function or positioj of a species within an ecological community
Predator
The one that eats.
