Speed which the beats follow one another
What is rhythm?
Organization of notes within a beat
What is pitch?
The high and low sound/notes
What is interval?
Distance between any 2 pitches
What is octave?
Distance between 2 notes
What is meter?
Recurring pattern of weak and strong beats
What is a duple meter?
Strong beat/weak alternation in groups of 2 or 4
What is a triple meter?
Strong beat/ weak beat alternation in groups of 3
What is an accent?
Additional emphasis or stresses added to a beat
What is a syncopation?
(Repeatedly) accenting weaker beats
What are scales?
Ordered pitches from high or low & vice verse
What is a diatonic scale?
7 pitches before repeating @ the octave
What is a chromatic scale?
All 12 notes in order before repeating @ the octave (no skipped notes)
What is a melody?
Combination of pitches and rhythms
What is cadence?
Stopping or pausing in the middle or end of a music piece
What is a harmony?
Notes played simultaneously-(at the same time)
What is consonance?
Combination of notes that sound pleasing
What is dissonance?
Combination of notes that sound harsh
What is texture?
Consonance/Dissonance (describe quality)

- 2 or more melody simultaneously

2 or more melodies performed @ the same time

- Tonal music
- based on scales
What is anonality?
- A tonal music
- not based on scales, unpredictable
