Terms Flashcards
new moon
the phase of the moon when it appears not illuminated by the sun when viewed from Earth
gibbous moon
the phase of the moon when it is about 3/4 illuminated by the sun
crescent moon
the phase of the moon when it is about 1/4 illuminated by the sun
half moon
the phase of the moon when about half of it is illuminated by the sun
full moon
the phase of the moon when it is fully illuminated by the sun
waxing
the illuminated portion of the moon is increasing
waning
the illuminated portion of the moon is decreasing
Newton’s first law
An object at rest tends to stay at rest, while an object at motion stays in motion. When there are no forces, an object tends to move at constant velocity.
Newton’s second law
F=m*a:the more force that is put on an object, the more it accelerates. But the more mass it has, the more it resists acceleration.
Law of Universal Gravitation
the gravitational force between two masses M and m is proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance r between them.
weight
the amount of gravitational pull on an object
mass
the amount of matter in an object.
inertia
resistance to changes in motion
kilogram
the SI unit for mass
newton
the SI unit for weight or force
