Pathology
the study of changes caused by disease.
etiology
the branch of medicine concerned with the structural and functional changes caused by disease.
homeostasis
maintaining body equilibrium, measurably disturbed
hypertrophy
enlargement of that gland or cell
atrophy
less growth (gotten smaller) (people in cast tent to get this because they don’t use that muscle for awhile)
cytology
the study of the cells
histology
study of the tissues
disease
the unhealthy state of a body part a physiological system or a body as a whole
signs
objective-you can see it (examples bumps, red, and watery)
symptoms
subjective- patient says this one, we have to trust them with what they say (examples itch and pain)
syndrome
you have both signs and symptoms
asymptomatic
without signs or symptoms (examples like high blood pressure and cancer in the liver)
diagnosis
the determination of the nature of the disease
prognosis
“what are the chances” predicted course and outcome of the disease
acute
short durations “heal quickly”
