Iambic pentameter
A line of verse that has five iambs (unstressed syllable followed by one stressed)

repeated pattern of movement or sound
Meter
The rhythm of a piece of poetry determined by the number and length of feet in a line.
Couplet
Two lined poem, joined by a rhyme.
Enjambment
the continuation of a sentence without a pause

Metaphor
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action, not literal
Simile

Not taken literally, metaphorical language, compare two things that aren’t seemingly alike
Sonnet
14 lined poem, 10 syllables a line, rhyme scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG
