FA Forward cabin 1st 3rd of cabin. “A” is responsible for PAs conducting compliance checks & communicating w/Pilots, Operations & Scheduling.
‘C’ Flight Attendant
FA at mid 1/3 cabin. C is responsible for checking the ER equipment, exit seat compiance & snack service.
‘D’ Flight attendant (800 series)
D FA assigned to mid AFT 1/4 of cabin

Auxiliary Power Unit A small gas turbine engine in the tail of AC that provides power to AC systems while on the ground.

Automated External Defibulator Life saving device that delivers a shock to the heart in a CA (cardiac arrest)

Begin and End their scheduled work assignments
Base Manager
The inflight service employees who are responsible for overseeing a Base Operation
Cabin
The passenger (pax) compartment of AC
Cabin Experience
the level of customer service provided to the SWA pax from the time they board to AC/deplane at destination.
Cabin Service
the employee group that jointly deals with inflight services & provisioning
CAPT or Captain or CA
The Pilot who sits in the L flight deck seat. Cap is the pilot in command and is identified by 4 stripes on his jacket cuff or epaulets.
Charter
An AC that has been hired by a private group or the government to operate a Non-Scheduled flight.
CISM
Critical Incident Stress Management is is a peer-support program assisting Crew Members after a stressful event.
CRO
Complaint Resolution Official a specially trained Ground Ops employee who is available to assist with issues involving customers w/disabilities
COS
Customer Of Size a pax who requires more than one seat for comfort & safety.
Crew Scheduling
the inflight service department for ensuring all SW flights are staffed with the required # of FAs
CRM
Crew Resource Management A practice of open communication between all crew members working a flight, designed to reduce errors & increase safety
CRS
Child Restraint System car seat or other approved devices used onboard to safely secure young children in their seats.
CS&S
Customer Support & Service the employee group responsible for making telephone reservations and answering customer questions.

SWA term for Passanger
CSA
Customer Service Agent a ground ops employee who provides assistance to customers in the terminal. CSAs sell ticket, issue boarding passes, check baggage & provide flight info. CSA work ticket counter, gate podiums or baggage claims
CSS
Customer Service Supervisor a ground ops leader who can assist with irregular situations. css are available to help resolve pax conflicts or accommodate customers in the event of delays or cancelations.
CWA
Crew Web Address the web based FA scheduling program accessed through SWAlife. FA check in for pairing & keep track of their scheduling.
D/H
DeadHead a crew member may be flown or “deadheaded” from one station to the next as a pax in order to begin or continue a pairing as a working crew member. DH crew are considered “on duty”

EMK
Emergency Medical Kit a kit that contains medications used to treat illness

Doors on the AC LEFT, used to board & deplane customers
Escape Slide
A self inflating ramp that provides a means of rapid egress from the cabin in an emergency

Exit Seat
a seat on the AC that has a direct access to an exit without having to enter the aisle. There are certain restrictions on which customers may sit in the exit seats.

FFDO
Federal Flight Deck Officer A pilot with specialized training who is permitted to carry a firearm when working as Cap or FO.
FO
First Officer Pilot who sits in the RIGHT flight deck seat. FO is second in command and assumes PIC responsibilities in the absence of the Cap. Identified by 3 stripes on jacket cuff or epaulets.

FTR
Failure To Report a FA who misses their trip sign-in/report time, but who could make the department time.
FWD
Forward towards the nose of the AC
Galley
areas on the AC forward & aft of cabin that provide storage & workspace for inflight beverage & snack service
Galley Service Door
doors on the Right side of AC used for loading galley supplies
Ground Operations/Ground Ops
the employee group responsible for the customers experience @ airport. This group includes ops agent, ramp agent, CSA & skycaps
GSC
Ground Security Coordinator a ground ops employee (usually and Ops agent) responsible for coordinating the response to security threats while ac is at the gate or on the ground.
Hazmat
Hazardous Materials chemicals & other substances that may pose a risk to health or safety when transported.
HHD
Hand Held Device a wireless credit card reader used by FA to inventory & collect payment for beverages purchased on board
Inflight Services
the employee group that deals directly with FA job function. part of the cabin services group
Inflight Supervisor
the inflight services employee assigned to a Base to assist FA & evaluate job performances
Irregular Operations
any flight that operate in a manner that may negatively impact our customers. Irregular Ops include delays, cancelations, emergencies, security threats, diversions, etc.
IR
Irregularity Report an electronic report submitted by FAs providing details & explanations for irregular operations or events
ISC
Inflight Security Coordinator the captain, who is responsible for the coordinating the response to security threats while AC is airborne
Jetbridge
the tunnel like structure that connect the airport terminal to AC. used to board & deplane.
LAV
Lavatory, the restrooms on AC
LEO
Law Enforcement Officer a traveler who is permitted to carry a firearm onboard AC
LUV
Southwest Airlines stock ticker symbol. also our preferred spelling of love.
LRBL
Least Risk Bomb Location a designated area of the AC where explosives can be possitioned in order to minimize damage to the AC if detonated.

Operations (ops) Agents
a ground ops employee who is responsible for the unloading & loading of an AC. Ops Agents screen & board customers, coordinate baggage & cargo loading. Compute weights & balances calculations and ensure the AC is secure while at the gate.
Outstation
A city served by WN with no crew base or provisioning station. Basic cabin services, like trash removal & ice are provided.
OWWE
Over Wing Window Exit hatches on either side of the AC above the wind that are used for emergency evacuations
