Causal assumptions
- the stated possible cause is the only cause
- the causal relationship isn’t reversed
Causal arguments
Links an observed effect with a possible cause from that effect.
Assumes there was no other cause for the observed effect.
Sampling arguments
Assumes that a given statistic or sample is sufficient to justify a given conclusion or that an individual is representative of a group
Sampling assumptions
- a given statistic or sample is representative of the whole
- the sampling was conducted correctly
Arguments by analogy
Author assumes that a given group, idea, or action is logically similar to another group, idea, or action
Analogy assumption
One group, idea, or action is the same as another, with respect to the terms of the argument

Specific questions
Often start with the word if and ask you to find the answer choice that: must be true, must be false, could be true, or could be false.

Usually begin with the word which.
- don’t give any extra limiting info

Do them last. Many different types.
