Film in context
-The time and place in witch the film was made
-The specific industry which produced the film
-The nation which produced it
-The attitudes and beliefs of the culture which produced the film
-Overall we can refer to the historical, social, political and industrial contexts
Studying a film in context suggests that:
-Films can tell us about the society and cultural which produced them
-Films and filmmakers are shaped by the society in which they exist
-The industrial and economic contexts can shape how a film is made
Voiceover
Non-diegetic sound, direct address to audience. Gives the audience a true reflection of how a character feels. Also used to set the science of a film world or to relay information to the audience.
Silence
Silence is powerful tool for the director
Soundscape
Characteristic sound that is associated with a particular location. These sounds add the feeling of immersion felt by the viewer and can also be used to heighten tension by focusing on specific sounds.
Sound motif
Sounds or music(in form of a repeated soundtrack) that is associated with a particular character. The motif can then be used for emotional or narrative impact.
