A
- Everything in the world operates according to observable forces.
- By observing these forces, we can learn to predict what’s going to happen. based on economic forces and power relationships.
- This is basically Communist Philosophy

A
- Capitalism is an economic system based on the buying, selling and gaining wealth.
- Communism seeks to equal the playing field. You get what you need, not what you want.

A
- Fatalism is extreme pessimism.
- The assumption that things can’t work out and you’re doomed to failure.
- For example, the feeling before a physics test.

- The pope will write a document on matters of importance to the church and the world.
- PP is a papal encyclical (letter written to all bishops) written by one of the popes.
- It’s a document that was dealing with social justice, how the church deals/teaches with poverty, violence etc.

A
- In the 1960s, Biafra was a region in Nigeria that attempted to separate from the mainland.
- The government did not accept this so they beseeched Biafra. They wouldn’t allow anyone out or into the region.
- It was a massive humanitarian crisis.

Despotic
A
- Despotic means acting like a despot.
- Despot means acting like a bad dictator.
- Most dictators today are despots. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Kim Jong Un.
- A despot is a dictator who rules through violence and intimidation.

Subversive Elements
A
- To subvert something is to undermine it. To work against it, and its credibility.
- In this case, people in society work against the good and will of the government in society.
- Hacker Anonymous would be subversive because they are against the works of the government.

Old Inquisition
A
- This is referring to the Spanish inquisition. There was a group from north Africa called the moors.
- They crossed the strait of Gibraltar into the iberian peninsula. Moors were muslim and Iberian peninsula was Christian.
- Eventually, there was a kingdom called Aragon (spanish). They tried to drive out all the moor and islamic influences.
- The new king started up an inquisition which is a religious court that would persecute people for not being Christian.

Agitators
A
- To agitate just means to stir up. Just means to move it.
- In this context, an agitator is basically a troublemaker. Trying to create trouble so trouble will spread.
- Often subversive elements are also agitators.

A
- The Laity is everybody who is not the official religious leader of the cultures. We are part of the Catholic Laity.

Demagogy
A
- It is when you act based on strictly emotion and appealing to these desires, rather than using a rational argument.
- Specifically in politics when leaders appeal to the nations emotions

Sub-Human Conditions
A
- Standard of living conditions that we do not expect humans to live in, and are not suitable for humans, but they still live like this.
- Example: Humans living in animal conditions.

Rendition
A
- To ‘rend’ is to give over, in this case,
- Americans handing over people they want to be tortured to countries where no treaty has been signed that are against human torture (as the US has signed such a treaty which does not allow torture).
- Handing over people for the reason of torture
- So, rendition flights are the flights that carry the passengers to these nations to be tortured/prisoned.
