A work that has characteristics of both novels and epics and generally deals with epic-related content, like major events (wars, empire-building) and heroic characters.
Epic novel
A novel that is told through letters written between one or more characters.
Epistolary novel
An early novel form that is often satirical in nature and concerns the experiences of a traveler, or picaro, who must progress through a series of struggles and conflicts and rely on wits in order to survive.
Picaresque novel
A work in which a historical even is conveyed in a novel form and with use of conventions commonly associated with the novel genre.
Nonfiction novel
A work that is longer than a short story but contains characteristics of a novel.
