Common noun
A naming word for anything you can touch, e.g chair, penguin, man etc
Abstract noun
A naming word for an idea, concept, state of being or belief, e.g sadness, love, politics, truth, happiness etc
( You cannot touch an abstract noun )
Proper noun / noun
A person, place or thing, e.g Jane, London, Oxfam
Active Verb
A word that represents a physical action, e.g jump, run, kill, slap
Stative verb
A word that represents a process that is often only mental, e.g think, love, believe, ponder etc
Auxiliary Verb
A verb that has to be used with another verb in order to help form the mood, voice. E.g DID, AM, WILL. “DID you go?” ; I AM going” ; “you WILL go”
Modal verb
An auxiliary verb that expresses a possibility e.g might, could, must, should
Adverb
Adverbs add or change meaning to a verb, e.g, slowly, quickly, beautifully
Superlative
An adjective that displays the most extreme value of its quality, e.g, most, biggest, smallest, tallest, quietest.
Most of the time they end with
“-est”
Comparative
It’s an adjective that is used to compare the differences between two objects, e.g, bigger, smaller, further, quieter
