Anatomy

Range of Motion
The full movement or motion of a joint.
Active Range of Motion
AROM
Range of motion performed by the patient
Passive Range of Motion
PROM
Movement performed by the examiner while patient relaxes all muscles.
Anatomical Position
Standing upright, arms at sides, palms facing forward, feet flat on the floor, face straight ahead.
Flexion
Bending a point or decreasing angle between two bones.
Extension
Straightening a joint or increasing angle between two bones.
Adduction
Moving a body part toward the midline of the body
Abduction
Move a body part away from the midline of the body.
Eversion
Turning the sole of the foot outward away from midline of the body.
Inversion
Turning the sole of the foot inward toward the midline of the body.
Dorsiflexion
Ankle movement that brings the foot toward the shin,
