Assimilate
To make part of another group by giving up original identity
Colonisation
The act of establishing a colony in another country

A traditional Aboriginal dance, for community entertainment or to celebrate a sacred event

Tactics of small, independent soldiers or fighters who harass the enemy with surprise raids
Indigenous
Describes a culture that has originated in an area
Midden
A prehistoric garbage tip usually composed of shells and bones
Musket
Old-fashioned soldiers hand gun
Subsistence
Describes farming in which all the produce is consumed by the farmers household
Terra Nullius
Latin term meaning ‘land belonging to no-one’ or unoccupied land
Lake Mungo
A dry lake located in South-Eastern Australia in NSW and home to Aboriginal artefacts
Boomerang
A curved, flat piece of wood that can be thrown so that it’ll return to the owner
The Dreaming
The Aboriginal understanding of the world, of it’s creation, and it’s stories
Native Title
A form of land title that recognises the unique ties some Aboriginal groups have to land
Kinship
Sharing the same type of relationship with all relatives
Dispossession
Defines the neoliberal capitalist polices in Western nations from the 1970s
Segregating
The action or state of settling someone or something apart from others
Ochre
An earthy pigment containing ferric oxide, typically made of clay
