A/C L (A/C R)
Aircraft left (or right). The side of the aircraft when standing in the cabin looking towards the front. The Captain always sits A/C L and the First Officer on A/C R.

Aft
Near, towards, or in the rear of the aircraft. On the rear facing side of any fixed object or partition.

Aircraft Number
An identification number painted on the outside of the aircraft. Also referred to as the ship or tail number.
Altitude
The distance in feet above mean sea level
APU
Auxiliary Power Unit
ATC
Air Traffic Control. A service operated by a regulated authority to promote the safe,orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic.
Block Time
When an A/C parks at the termination of a flight, rubber blocks or “chocks” are placed on each side of the wheels to keep the A/C from rolling. These blocks are removed when the A/C departs on another flight. “Block Time” is that period of time beginning when an A/C first moves from the ramp for the purpose of the flight, and ends when the A/C comes to a stop at the ramp at the next point after landing.

A term used to define any diving wall or partition in the cabin

Captain. The Pilot in Command (PIC) of an aircraft who is directly responsible for and is the final authority for the operation of that aircraft. (S)he also has authority over and is responsible for the performance of the duties of other crewmembers.
Cabin
The interior of an A/C where the passengers are seated.

Charter Flight
A plane “rented” by a group for it’s own use. A charter flight may operate on or off the Spirit system as long as the destination city has approved airport facilities.
Check-in Time
The time a flight attendant is required to report for flight duty.
Check Ride
A flight on which the crewmember(s) are being checked on the performance of their duties.

Deadhead (DH)
Transportation of crewmembers from one point to another to cover a trip, or return home to base. This is considered time on-duty.
Deicing
Procedure which removes frost, ice, slush, or snow from aircraft surfaces. These procedures may utilize fluids, mechanical means, or surface heating to remove icing contaminants.

Direct Flight
A flight that has one flight number, but with one or more stops.

A
