All-in
A player who has invested all of their remaining chips in the outcome of a hand
Active Player
A player who is all-in or has not folded in a round of play
Ante
A predetermined contribution to the pot placed by all players; 20% of the table minimum
Bet
Placing the required wager, including a call and/or raise, or going all-in for their remaining chips
Betting round
A period of play where each active player has the option to check, bet, or fold
Blind
A predetermined contribution to the pot placed by a selected player or players
Burn
A card removed from the top of the deck, placed face down, separate from the discards
Call
A wager made equal to previous wager or going all-in for their remaining chips
Check
To abstain from wagering but continue to stay in contention for the pot
Commission
An amount due to the casino operator for hosting the game
Community cards
A card or cards dealt to the centre of the table, which may be used by all players to complete their best possible hand
Dead hand
A hand that is ineligible to win the pot
Designated player
The last player to receive cards in the initial deal and is indicated by the dealer button
Flop
Three community cards dealt face down and turned face up simultaneously
Hand
The cards dealt to each player in a round of play
Hole cards
A player’s concealed cards
Indicate
A verbal announcement or motion by a player to check, bet, or fold, all of which are binding
Muck
The pile of discards
Poker Room Manager
A casino supervisor
Pot
The sum of the antes, blinds, and bets wagered
Raise
A wager made greater than the previous wager
Round
A period of play where the dealer button moves around the table ans has reached a particular player for the second time
Round of play
The period of play commencing with the dealing of the first card and concluding with passing the pot
Side pot(s)
A separate pot or pots created due to one or more players going all-in
