What is the purpose of lighting design?
illuminating action on stage
conveying setting and time of day e.g. hot country use warm, orange lighting to demonstrate hot climate/ low light to indicate night
mood/atmosphere e.g. cool, blue light at low intensity create cold, damp jail cell
Focussing audience attention
Influencing pace e.g. slow fades create calming effect
themes/symbols: red lighting represent love or romance
