Diagetic: origionates within world of story e.g. table lamp, sunlight coming through window

Transitions: crossfade/ snap

Spotlight
Flood
Fresnel (Soft edged spotlight)
Strobe (flashing light, creates jerky effect on movement)
Blinder lights

Gobo creates texture e.g. light through trees
Coloured gels

What is the purpose of lighting design?

A

illuminating action on stage

conveying setting and time of day e.g. hot country use warm, orange lighting to demonstrate hot climate/ low light to indicate night

mood/atmosphere e.g. cool, blue light at low intensity create cold, damp jail cell

Focussing audience attention

Influencing pace e.g. slow fades create calming effect

themes/symbols: red lighting represent love or romance
