Something needs to be removed from the set
Deal memo
A crew contract made with the production company that outlines salary, screen credit and kit rental fee
Butt cans
Usually metal bucket with sand to drop cigarettes in
10-4
An affirmative response
10-100
Indicates a cast or crew person has left set to go to the washroom
Copy
Confirmation that someone has heard a message on the walkie
Walkie check
Check if the walkie is working
What’s your 20?
What is your location?
Winnie
One of the large trailers on set that can house a cast member or crew
Circus
Area where the trucks, catering trucks, tents and trailers
Honeywagon
Film trailer that contains the washrooms, AD office and other portable rooms
Lock it up
Called out by the first AD to indicate all noise, traffic activity, or action should be halted as shooting is to begin
Finals, final touches
Makeup, hair, wardrobe props, set dec, etc to give their last touch ups
Roll camera
Called by first AD to start camera rolling
Turn over
Same as roll camera
Speed
Called by sound mixer when the sound recorder is rolling and ready to record
Checking the gate
Called by the fist AD to indicate the 1st camera assistant will be checking casting for any debris that could spoil the shot “gate is good” is the response
Hot set
Refers to a set in progress where nothing should be touched
Dailies
Crew members who are brought on a day to day basis as required
Fire watch
The duty of watching equipment and sets while the cast and crew are on lunch break
The Abby
The second last shot of the day
The window shot
Last shot of the day
Eyeline
The eyeline of the actor while performing. All crew should avoid the actors eyeline
Bogey
Refers to a person who had breached the the set and is walking through the shot
Kill that
Make it stop refers to kind noise disrupting set
General crew call
Time at the beginning of the shoot day when most of cast and crew are expected to be there
First team
Actors in the scene
Blocking
Scene is walked through by the actors under directors supervision
Day for night
Using special lenses, lighting and film stock to create a night look during the day
Turning around
The camera will be shooting from the opposite angle
Flashing
A warning issued by anyone taking a Polaroid photograph on set
Cut
The director yells this when he wants to stop filming
Coverage
A variety of different shots filmed for a scene. They are used in a editing process to create pace and variety
M.O.S
The scene does not require any sound to be recorded
Ambient sound
Background sound
Spuds, spreader and pancakes
Different types of grip equipment
Dolly
Platform with wheels that has a mount for the camera
Blondes, redheads, babies
Different types of set lights
Crane shot
Crane is being used to get an overhead or areal shot if the scene
Ballast
Device that regulates the current from the generator to HMI light. No one but electrical should approach
Clapper
Device used to mark in and out points of a scene
