Stative Verb
Verbs that express a state rather than an action
e.g. love, smell
Abstract Nouns
A noun meaning an idea/concept rather than a concrete object
e.g. faith
Asyndetic Listing
A list of items with no ‘and’ or conjunctions; only commas
e.g. the red, white, blue, sparkly lighthouse
Syndetic Listing
A list of items with the use of ‘and’ or another conjunction
e.g. the red, white and blue and sparkly lighthouse
Adjective
A word that describes a noun
Collective Noun
A noun that denotes a group of individuals
e.g. herd, choir
Pronoun
Refers to a participant in the discourse, (in replacement of a name)
e.g. I, You, She
Concrete Noun
Noun you experience through five senses
e.g. table, door
Dynamic Verb
Verbs where there is some kind of action, or process
e.g. run, learn
Pre-modifier
A word, especially adjective, placed before the noun
e.g. the loud child = loud is a pre-modifying adjective
Preposition
A word governing where two nouns are in relation to each other
e.g. I am BENEATH the platform, she arrived AFTER dinner
Proper Noun
A word used to identify a person or place
e.g. Alice, Buckingham Palace
Conjunction
A word which joins together different parts of a sentence
e.g. and, because
