Term1 Flashcards
What is Forces?
Apush or pull action that has size and direction.
What is Dynamic Forces?
The forces acting on an object that is moving.
Static forces
The forces acting on an object when its not moving
Contact Forces
the forces that act when a force comes direct contact with another object
Non-Contact Forces
Forces that act across a distance
Even loads
When loads are placed in a way that means that the load is balanced and no movement occurs
Uneven loads
When loads are placed in a way that means that the loads are not balanced and there movement.
Loads
A force acting on structure that is supporting a wieght or resisting external force
Cross- bracing
in construction this is where the structure is reinforced by beams that cross each other to form an X shape
List the Forces acting on materials
- Tension
- Compression
- Torsion
- Shear
Explains the Forces that react on materials.
- Tension - is a pulling force exerted on a object.
- Compression - Occours when forces squash an object
- Torsion - Is when twisting an object
- Shear - is force that tries to snap or break materials apart
Density
The amount of matter in grams that fills a particular Volume
Mass
a measurement of the level of density of a material
Hardness
The ability od a stiff material to resist scratches wear and tear or denting
Stiffness
the abilty of a material not to bend or lose shape under pressure
Flexibility
the property of a material not to bend and return to its original shape
