Term Three Energy And Change Flashcards
Define nuclear energy.
This is energy created when an atom is split or fused, this energy usually ends in explosions.
Define chemical energy.
This is energy stored in chemicals, such as gas, food, coal and batteries.
Define potential energy.
Stored energy. Energy that could happen. e.g. Springs or a rock at the top of a cliff.
Define thermal energy.
Thermal energy is the same as heat energy. e.g. Fire
Where does all of our energy come from?
The Sun
What is the Sun?
It is our nearest star.
What do we need energy for?
We need energy for EVERYTHING!
What type of sources of energy are fossil fuels?
They are non-renewable sources of energy.
What type of sources of energy are Solar energy, Wind energy and hydropower?
They are renewable sources of energy.
Why do we need to use renewable sources of energy?
We need to use renewable sources of energy because fossil fuels (non-renewable sources of energy) will eventually run out. Fossil fuels also harm the environment.
Name three types of renewable energy sources.
Solar energy, wind energy and hydropower.
Name two types of fossil fuels.
Some examples are: Coal, oil and natural gas.
Give four examples of what we use energy for.
Some examples are: To run computers and electronic appliances, warmth, to move things like cars and other vehicles, cooking, seeing, jobs and living.
