Resources are the things we need to live and work. Minerals are resources that are found inside rocks.

A

Platinum is very rare. South Africa has the biggest platinum reserves in the world.
Platinum is used to make controllers of exhaust gases and they are needed all over the world.
Platinum is used to make disc drives for computers, jewellery.
Platinum jewellery is more valuable than gold jewellery.

  1. Huge forests grew around 300 million years ago and covered the earth.
  2. Vegetation dies and forms peat
  3. Peat is compressed between sediment layers
  4. Further compression forms coal.
  5. And then coal is formed.
