Term 1 work Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
When pants use sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to create glucose and oxygen.
The scientific equation is:
6 Co2+ 6 H20+ 6 O2.
glucose : C6H12O6
What is chloroplast?
Structures that are located inside a plant. It contains chlorophyll.
What is chlorophyll?
A green pigment that enables plants to trap radiant energy and later convert it to glucose.
What is ecology?
The study of interactions between living organisms and their environment.
What are species?
A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of reproducing and producing fertile offspring.
What are populations?
A group of individuals of the same species that live in the same ecosystem at the same time.
What is a community?
Different populations that interact with one another in the same ecosystem.
What is an ecosystem?
All the living and non-living things in an environment and the different ways in which they interact.
What is the biosphere?
All areas on Earth where life exists.
What is the biosphere split up into?
The Hydrosphere(water) The Lithosphere(land) The Atmosphere(air)
What is a habitat?
The natural home of an animal, plant or any organism.
What are the producers in the ecosystem?
Things that photosynthesise.
Also known as Autotrophs
What are consumers in the ecosystems?
Things that eat to gain energy
Also known as Heterotraphs
What are carnivores?
Animals that only eat meat.
What are herbivores?
Animals that only eat plants.
