Congress
the national legislative body of a country.
Executive Branch
The branch of federal and state government that is broadly responsible for implementing, supporting, and enforcing the laws made by the legislative branch and interpreted by the judicial branch.
Legislative Branch
the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating.
Judicial Branch
includes criminal and civil courts and helps interpret the United States Constitution
President
the elected head of a republican state.
Vice-president
an official or executive ranking below and deputizing for a president.
Census
an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details of individuals.
Supreme Court
the highest judicial court in a country or state.
House of Representatives
The House of Representatives is the lower house of the United States Congress. The House and the Senate work together on bills to give to the President to put into law.
Senate
he smaller upper assembly in the US Congress, most US states, France, and other countries.
liberalism
a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.
conservatism
the principles and practices of political conservatives.
checks and balances
limits imposed on all branches of a government by vesting in each branch the right to amend or void those acts of another that fall within its purview.
Democracy
government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
