Congress
the national legislative body of a country.

Executive Branch
executive branch is a noun that means part of U.S. government responsible for carrying out laws. The executive branch of the government is responsible for carrying out, or executing, the laws. The key member of the executive branch of the United States government is the President.
The legislative branch
The legislative branch is the part of the United States government that creates laws. Whenever you read about congresspeople in the Senate or House debating a law, you’re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating.
Judicial Branch
The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the land and the only part of the federal judiciary specifically required by the Constitution. The Constitution does not stipulate the number of Supreme Court Justices; the number is set instead by Congress.

checks and balances
The system of checks and balances is used to keep the government from getting too powerful in one branch. For example, the Executive Branch can veto bills from the Legislative Branch, but the Legislative Branch can override the veto.
democracy
a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
politics
the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.
Republican
