How did people of the Mapungubwe area live?
They lived in Homesteads and villages
What was the society like?
Equal
What did the people farm?
Millet, cattle, goats and sorghum
Why was there little conflict?
Because there was plenty of land

Who did they trade with?
Neighbours and other villages
How do we know the villages grew bigger?
The cattle enclosures that archaeologists found, grew.

Which families had more power?
Richer families…. we know they were rich because of the large cattle enclosures and clay figures that archaeologists find
Where are K2 and Schroda located?
Limpopo Valley - they shared the same culture and way of life as the people in the Mapubgubwe
How do we know K2 and Schroda people traded with people from the coast?
Cowrie shells were found
What did decorations on clay pots resemble?
symbolic religious meaning
What were Ostrich eggs used for?
Beads
Where was the village located in relation to the chief or king?
King - on top of the hill - closer to ancestors
Village - at the bottom of the hill.
How do we know they lived in those villages for a long time?
House foundations were found on top of one another. As one hut got old, they built a new one on top of it.
