Term 1 Flashcards
Name some of the Natural Hazards
Earthquake,sandstorms,Hurricanes,Volcano,Tsunami,Blizzards.
What is the difference between a natural hazard and a natural disaster?
The difference between a natural hazard and a natural disaster is that a hazard can can be potential threat while a disaster is when the threat actually happens.
What are the four types of hazards?
Biological,Hydroliogical,Atmospheric and Geophysical.
What is a biological hazard?
Any biological substance that poses a threat to the health of people. e.g.earthquake.
What is a hydrological hazard?
It is created by extreme movement and distribution of water. e.g.floods and tsunamis.
What is a atmospheric hazard?
interfere with the bodies ability to transport and utilize oxygen, or which can have toxic effects on the human body. e.g.oxygen deficiencies, dusts, chemical vapors.
What is a geophysical hazard?
Created by the movement of the tectonic plates such as mass movements, landslides, rockslides, surface collapses and debris or mud flows.
What are the layers of the earth?
What are they made from?
Crust:soil
Mantle:Magnesium,Iron,Silicon and oxygen.
Outer Core:liquid Iron and nickel
Inner Core:Solid Iron and nickel
What are tectonic plates?
A giant slab of earth’s crust
What is Continental Drift?
It is a theory by Alfred Wegner and he thought that continents could fit like a jigsaw puzzle.
What is Convection currents?
A heat transfer that involves the movement of fluids.
What is Pangea?
Gigantic continents that slowly broke apart and spread out to continents.
What are Plate boundaries?
Where two tectonic plates meet.
What are the 4 main plate boundaries?
Destructive,conservative,collision and conservative.
What is the movement of the constructive plate boundaries?
when the plates are moving apart from one another
