Tenta genetics and epigenetcs Flashcards
Are epigenetic markers maintained in the cell throughout life?
The epigenetic markers are maintained during cell division but ereased in the fertilized zygot and the primordal germ cells
What is lineage restriction?
As the stem cell divides it will become more restricted into what cells it can turn into, only early stem cells have the ability to turn into any cell
Does x inactivation only affect females?
It happens in the first meotic prophase during spermatogenesis
What is genomic inprinting?
Only one copy of either the paternal or maternal sett will give expression, the other one is silenced. Is pretty rare.
How are genomic inprinting be found?
Often in clusters called imprinted domains
What is the conflict hypothesis?
That genomic imprinting occurs because the mother has to think about the surrvival of her and the fetus thus carrying small children while the father only thinks about surrviving offspring thus wants to carry large children so they cancel each other out (usually)
What is genomic inprinting diseases?
When one copy either maternal of paternal is deleted or inherited two sets of the maternal or paternal one
What is transgeneratonal inheritance?
It’s the inheritance of epigenetic markers can be caused by both ecological and cultural factors, but can also be caused by disease that affect the germ line
What is epigenetic priming?
The chromatin in the cell turns from closed to open
What are driver and passenger mutations?
Passenger is silence mutations and drivers that cause disease
