How do you conjugate verbs in the PRESENT tense?
According to the verb type and the pronouns (je, tu, etc), add onto the ending of the verb, after removing the end of the verb.
(Ex: Je mange la pomme / I am eating an apple)
What are the present tense -ER endings?
e, es, e, ons, ez, ent.
What are the present tense -IR endings?
is, is, it, issons, issez, issent.
What are the present tense -RE endings?
s, s, (none), ons, ez, ent.
How do you conjugate verbs in the PASSÉ COMPOSE tense?
Use the conjugated form of avoir / être + the participe particle.
(Ex: J’ai mangé la pomme / I ate an apple)
When do you use être in Passé Compose?
For verbs of movement: DR MRS VANDERTRAMP.
What is the -ER participe particle?
(-é)
What is the -IR participe particle?
(-i)
What is the -RE participe particle?
(-u)
How do you conjugate verbs in the IMPARFAIT tense?
Use the verb stem + endings.
(Ex: Je mangais la pomme / I was eating an apple)
How do you get a “verb stem”?
Take the verb in present tense, conjugate it to the ‘nous’ form. Remove the VERY ending, not the whole thing.
What are the Imparfait endings?
ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient.
How do you conjugate verbs in the FUTUR PROCHE tense?
Take the conjugated form of ALLER and the infinitiv of the verb.
(Ex: Je vais manger la pomme / I will eat an apple)
What is the ‘infinitiv’ of a verb?
The whole verb.
What are the conjugations of ALLER in the PRESENT tense? (Used in futur proche).
vais, vas, va, allons, allez, vont.
