Unaka Mtns
Unaka is a Cherokee word that means an area with a white mist of clouds. Also known as the great smokies
East Tennessee Valley and Ridge
Characterized by alternating ridges and valleys. Sometimes called folded Appalachians.
Cumberland plateau
One of the most sparsely populated areas. Soil is not good for farming.
Cumberland Gap
One of Tennessee’s geographical wonders.
Highland rim
is a rugged plateau. Has limestone soil which is good for growing corn, wheat tobacco. Largest natural division of Tennessee
Central Basin
Forms the bottom of the highland rim. Has some of the most fertile soil in Tennessee. Four rivers flow through. Nashville is in this region.
West Tennessee plain
Known as the agricultural heart of Tennessee . Memphis is the regions chief city. Divided into two subdivisions. They are Mississippi bottoms- a small area perfect for growing grain, and West Tennessee slope-good hunting ground.
