Pathological changes that skip certain sections of arteries whilst damaging others

Features
A
Patient > 60 yrs Rapid onset (< 1 month)
- Headache
- Jaw claudication
- Visual distubrances (anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy)
- Tender, palpable temporal artery

PMR Features
A
- Aching, morning stiffness in proximal limb muscles
- Lethargy
- Depression
- Low grade fver
- Anorexia
- Night sweats

Investigations
A
- Raised inflammatory markers = ESR+++
- Temporal artery biopsy

A
High dose PREDNISOLONE
-Urgent ophthalmology review
