Temp Flashcards
Thermal energy
Sum of the kinetic and potential energy of the Particles that make up an object
Specific heat
Amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of material 1*C
Heat
Energy that is transferred between objects due to a temperature difference between those objects
Conductive
Transfer of thermal energy by collisions between the particles that make up matter
Convection
Transfer of thermal energy in a fluid by the movement of warmer and cooler fluid from one place to another
Radiation
Transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves
Thermal insulated
A material through which thermal energy moves slowly
Solar collector
Devises used in an active solar heating system the transforms radiant energy from the sun into thermal energy
Thermodynamics
Study of the relationship between thermal energy, heat, and work
1st law of thermodynamics
States that if the mechanical energy of a system is constant, the increase in the thermal energy of the system equals the sum of the thermal energy transferred into the system and the work done on the system
2nd law of thermodynamics
States that energy spontaneously spreads from region of higher concentration to regions of lower concentration
Temperature
Measure of the average kinetic energy of all the particles that make up and object.
