Tema 2 Sensitivity Definitions Flashcards
Pupil
Is a hole in the center of the iris. Light enters through the eye here.
Lens
Helps the eye to focus the light
Retina
Captures the light and produces an image
Iris
Controls the amount of light that enters the pupil
Optic nerve
Carries impulses to the brain from the retina
Pinna
Captures sound in form of vibrations
Ear canal
The vibrations travel along the air canal
Eardrum
Makes the three small bones vibrate
Small bones
The small bones make the cochlea vibrate
Cochlea
The cochlea transforms these vibrations into signals
Auditory nerve
Carries signal to brain from cochlea
Taste
We taste to detect flavours.
There are many small receptors on your tongue called taste buds that detect different flavours.
Sense of touch
The skin contains touch receptors which detect information and send this information to your nerves. The skin has two main layers.
- The epidermis: This is the outside layer
- The dermis: This layer contains the nerve endings.
Sense of Smell
We smell to detect smells.
- Nostril
- Nasal Cavity
- Olfactory ephitelium
