Q

How do you check power assisted steering is working before starting a journey?

A

If steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly. You check this by applying and maintaining gentle pressure to the steering wheel as you start the engine. There should be a slight movement as the system begins to operate. Alternatively, you can turn the steering wheel just after moving off and that will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning.
