tell me how you would check the breaks are working before starting a journey
when you press the break pedal it shouldn’t feel spongey or slack - the car shouldn’t pull to one side.
where you would find the cars recommended tyre pressure

how would check each tyres pressure
use a reliable pressure gauge to check and adjust the pressures when the tyres are cold. don’t forget to refit the valve caps and check the spare tyre if you’ve got one.
how would you check that the head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection.
adjust the head restraint so the rigid part is at least as high as your your eyes or the top of your ears - close to the back of your head and comfortable - some cars don’t have adjustable head restraints
check tyres have sufficient tread depth and are in a safe condition
no cuts or bulges. at least 1.6mm of tread of tread depth across the middle 3/4 of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference .
how check the headlights and tail lights are working (or direction)
turn on the switch (might need to turn on the ignition) then walk around the car and make sure they are working .
how would you know if there is was a problem with the anti-lock breaking system
ABS warning light should light up if there is a fault
how to check the indicators are working
turn on hazard warning lights - turn ignition on and walk around the car to check that the lights are working.
how to check break lights are working
press the break pedal and ask someone to check if its working or use reflections in windows and doors
how to check the power steering is working
turn ignition on and turn the steering wheel- should move with ease
how you switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how would you know when the main beam is on
turn ignition on then turn on dipped headlights and switch to the main beam and check main beam symbol is on the dashboard
how to switch on the rear fog lights and explain when you’d use them
turn the ignition on then turn on the dipped headlights (or just use switch) - check warning light on the dashboard is on - ONLY USE WHEN VISIBILITY IS SERIOUSLY REDUCED - generally when you cant see for more than 100 metres
open the bonnet and tell me how u would check the engine has sufficient oil
remove the dip stick and wipe it clean with a cloth put it back in the holder then take it out again look at the high and low marks the oil level should be between the m- if its too low top it up but dont over fill it as u could damage the engine
open the bonnet and tell me how would u check the engine has sufficient engine coolant
check the coolant level by looking at the high and low level on the radiator header tank if the levels are low top it up with a water and anti-freeze mix but only when the engine is cold - could get injured if u open the cap when its hot.
open the bonnet and tell me how u would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid.
the break fluid must be kept between the high and low marks, if its low top it up with the correct type of fluid - in the cars manual.
