How would you check the brakes are working before starting a journey?
- Brakes should not feel spongy/slack
- tested as you set off
- vehicle should not pull to one side
Where would you find the info for tyre pressures & how tyre pressures should be checked?
when your doing this what should you not forget to do?
- Manufacturers guide
- use a reliable pressure gauge
- check & adjust pressures when tyres are cold
- don’t forget spare tyre & refit valve caps
Correct head restraint?
- the rigid part is at least as high as the top of ears & as close to head as is comfortable
How would you check tyre tread depth & that their general condition is safe to use on the road?
- not cuts & bulges, 1.6mm across the breadth & circumference of the tyre
How would you check headlights & tail lights are working?
- turn on ignition, walk around vehicle to check
How would you know if there was a problem with anti-lock braking system?
- warning light should illuminate if there is a fault
How would you check the indicators are working?
- turn on ignition
- put hazard warning lights on
- then walk around the vehicle
How would you check the brake lights are working?
- operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows or ask someone to go out and help
How would you check power steering?
- if system becomes heavy it might not be working
- gentle pressure on the steering wheel maintained while the engine is turned on
- wheel should move as the system operates
How would you switch on the rear fog lights and when would you use them?
- turn on dipped headlights & ignition if necessary
- check warning lights is on
- 100 metres visibility difficulty
How would you transition from dipped to main beam & explain how you’d know the main beam is on?
- turn on ignition operate switch
- check with main beam warning light
