  • open bonet
  • check oil level by removing dipstick. wipe it clean of oil, dip it back in, remove it again.
  • Oil should leave an oily mark between max and min marker

  • open the bonnet
  • check max and min levels on the side of the expansion tank
  • (i would never open the coolant when its hot)

  • i would move forward slowly, press the foot brake
  • it shouldn’t feel spongy or slack and the car shouldn’t pull to one side

  • i would check and adjust all the tyres including the spare tyre when theyre cold with an air pressure guage
  • i would refit the valve caps after
  • tyre pressure info can be found in the car manual or a sticker on the drivers or passenger door pillar

  • adjust the head restraint so the rigid part is as high as your eye or top of the ears and as close to the back of your head as comfortable
  • there is a button at the base of the head restraint that you can press and move it up and down

  • check all tyres with a tread depth gauge
  • tread depth should be no less than 1.6mm across the central three quarters breadth of the tyre
  • check this all the way round the tyre
  • there shouldn’t be any cuts or bulges on the outside of the tyre wall

  • then i would walk around the car to make sure all 6 indicators are working

  • Or i would ask someone to help and check the brake lights are working

  • give the steering a bit of pressure as i start the engine
  • there should be a slight movement as the power steering begins to operate
  • also as soon as i move off i would feel the steering is light to turn and not heavy

  • I would use the rear fog lights when i cant see further than 100m
  • i would first turn on ignition, turn on the dipped headlights and then press the button for rear fog light (image)
  • I know it’s on because i see a warning light on the dashboard

  • I would turn on the ignition
  • then i would turn on dipped headlights
  • then turn it onto main beam (by pushing stalk)
  • the blue indicator light on the dashboard shows the main beam is on
