How do you check the brakes are working before a journey?
They should not feel spongy or slack when pressed and the car should not pull to one side
Where do you find the info for the recommended tire pressures and how should they be checked?
In the car manual
Using a reliable pressure guage, one should remove the valve caps and check the tire pressure. Tires should be cold. Check the spare tire and put the valve caps back on the tires after checking.
How should a head restraint be correctly adjusted?
The restraint should fully support ones head
The top of the restraint should be at least as high as the eyes or top of ears
How do you check the condition of the tires?
You should ensure that there are no cuts and bulges on the tires and that there is 1.6mm of trad depth across the centre of the tire.
How do you check the headlights and tail lights are working?
Turn the dial for the lights
Walk around the car and check
How would you know there is a problem with your anti-lock braking system?
Warning lights should come on the dashboard
How do you check the direction indicators are working?
Put on the hazard warning lights
Walk around the car and check
How do you check the brake lights are working on this car?
Push the brake pedal and use a reflection surface or someone else to check the brake lights come on
How can you check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey?
If the steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly.
One can check this is not the case:
With the engine on, apply gentle pressure to the steering wheel and it should move
Just after moving off, turn the steering wheel and if it moves, the power-assistance is working
How do you switch on the rear fog lights and when would you use them?
Turn the first dial, turn the second dial once. A light should come up on the dashboard.
Fog lights should be used when visibility is less than 100m
How do you switch your headlight from dipped to main beam?
Turn the dial to the right
Push left stick forward and a light should come up on the dashboard
How do you check that the engine has sufficient oil?
Point to the dipstick (oil level indicator)
Check the oil level against the minimum and maximum markers
How do you check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant?
Point to the tank (front of bonnet) and check on the minimum and maximum markers
How do you check you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid?
Point to the tank (back left) and check on the minimum and maximum markers
