- reliable pressure gauge
- check and adjust pressure when tyres are cold
- spare tyre
- refit valve caps
Head rest is best position in case of a crash
- rigid part should be as high as eye or top of ears
Close to back of head as comfortable - some aren’t adjustable
Check tyre tread depth and safety for road
- no cuts or bulges
- 1.6mm tread depth across the 3/4 of the breadth of tyre around entire outer circumference of tyre
Check headlights and taillights are working
Turn on the switch and ignition if necessary and check the car by walking around it
Check to see if there is a problem with antilock breaks
- warning light should illuminate
Check if direction indicators are working
- turn on switch
- walk around car to see if working
Check break lights
- push break pedal
- use reflections in windows or doors or ask someone to help
Check power assisted steering
- If heavy steering then something is wrong
- check before journey
If fog lights are working and how your would use them

- turn on switch
- check warning lights
- only on if not cars are in front or coming towards you
Headlights dipped to main beam
Turn on switch
- turn away from you for dipped
- flick away from you for main beam
- warning light
Open bonnet and check engine has sufficient oil
- identify dipstick oil level indicator
- check oil levels against min and max markers
Check engine has sufficient coolant
- high and low level markings on header tank where fitted or radiator filler cap and describe how top up to correct level
Check safe level or hydraulic brake fluid
- identify reservoir
- check level against high and Low marking
Wash can clean rear windscreen
Push away and hold for fluid
Wash and clean front windscreen
- up and towards for fluid
Dipped headlights
- turn left tip away
Set rear demister
?????
Operate horn
Press horn
Demise front windscreen
Open close side windows
When safe open slightly then close again
