Elicit
Drawing out information from students in order to increase student talk time, participation. This prevents teacher domination and helps them to practise the language.
Realia
Use of props or objects in the classroom e.g. toys, globe, bouncy ball. Useful for visual, tactile and kinaesthetic learners
Authentic materials
Resources used to engage students and create interest. e.g. Videos, newspapers, adverts,, emails
Concept checking
Checking that students have understood what you have taught them. (using 5Ws, who what where when why (how))
Fillers
Small activities used in the classroom to consolidate a language point
Talk based learning
Real life roleplay tasks to give a specific goal or outcome (dentist’s appointment, ordering food, asking for advice)
