Domestic Violence
Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over, who are or have been intimate partners or family members (Home Office, 2013)
Coercive Control
A pattern of behaviour which seeks to take away the victims liberty of freedom and to strip away their sense of self. it is not just women’s bodily integrity that is violated but also their human rights (Stark)
Cultural Violence
*Explains how IPVA is normalised within young peoples relationships
Makes direct and structural violence look, even feel, right or at least not wrong. Highlights the way in which the act of direct violence and structural violence are legitimised and thus rendered acceptable in society (Galtung)
